First Successful Pumping

Following correction of problems first encountered when trying to run the engine after restoration was complete, the engine pumped successfully at the HFD Training Center on a rainy May evening in 1985. This was in preparation for a public Memorial Day pumping demonstration.

Silsby #483 shown at the completion of the first successful pumping with the following crew: George Davey, fireman; (front) Lester Loving, David Brown, David Stalker, (back) Tim Stiteler, Bailie Rutherford, Capt. Stan Pratt and Dan Gallik

Up and pumping flowing two good streams from 1.5" tips on original play pipes. Soft coal was used for fuel as water was drafted from the river with an eight foot lift.
