Joining a Volunteer Fire Department requires a big commitment in time and responsibility, but no volunteer organization can give those who participate actively greater satisfaction for providing a vital community service to your friends and neighbors.

Honesdale Fire Department serves the Greater Honesdale area and surrounding townships. The primary fire district covers an area of about forty-four square miles. In 1999 the department answered more than two hundred emergency calls involving thousands of man hours. Thousands of additional hours were spent training and with administrative duties.

The department is all volunteer, comprised of four independent companies operating fire apparatus valued in excess of two million dollars. Each company maintains it's fire fighting equipment and station facilities. Four additional integral department units draw their manpower from the companies. They are; Fire Police, Tanker 6, Rescue 7, and Foam Tender 8.
